Update Mar. 25

Maggie and Jackson's contract at Friend's Jazz Bar was supposed to end March 31 but they've extended another three months to July 1! It's a good thing too: The warm weather has brought sellout crowds on the weekends so if you want to sit on the first floor with the band come early or on weeknight. The music starts at 9:00pm, Tuesday through Sunday.

Update Feb. 13

Ever wonder what jazz sounds like in China? Below are a couple of clips from February 6 at Friends Jazz Bar. In addition to Maggie and Jackson the clip features Li Yang (Leo-piano) and Ye Lao Shi (drums). On Blue Skies the recorder didn't get turned on until the middle of the first chorus, so it starts with the guitar solo-skip to the end to hear Maggie's singing.

Update Dec. 5

The first few months in Hangzhou, China have been a blast for Maggie and Jackson. If you find yourself in Zhejiang Province please stop by Friends Jazz Bar on Nanshan Road in Hangzhou. They are there Tuesday-Sunday, 9:00PM-12:30AM. The quartet features Maggie on bass and vocals, Jackson on guitar and vocals and China natives Leo and Xiao Bo on piano and drums.

Hangzhou is an historic city full of natural beauty. Centered around West Lake (recently named a World Heritage Site) and spread among lush green hills, the city offers quick escape from its many western amenities. Shopping, dining and a vibrant night life abound in the lowlands while quiet walks up steep, stone paved paths will lead to Buddhist temples, pagodas and many natural features.

Praise:

"Thank you again... As you could see from our guest's response everyone really loved your sound and your music was the perfect vibe for the evening."
-Jason Carlen, Palmetto Bluff Resort

"...this group has carved a niche for itself in Savannah and beyond as purveyors of some great jazz that distills traditional and contemporary styles into something so smooth that you'll have to order a martini just to feel classy enough to sit and listen." -Patrick Rodgers, South Magazine

"Maggie Evans' voice sounds absolutely luxurious on the record. She stands out immediately. ...extremely intoxicating to my ears."
-Tadd Trueb, Murmur Magazine

"A very clean player, Jackson recalls Jim Hall at times and Gabor Szabo at others. He is fluid and relaxed and has a rapport with Corday that belies his age...Maggie's sultry voice, Jackson’s vibrant tone, and Corday’s surefooted rhythms have me wishing that the nature of their luck is good."
-Ben Weiss, Jazz Director, KBGA 89.9 FM, Missoula, Montana

"The Nature of Luck finds the group offering up 10 tracks of delicate, bouncy —and occasionally bluesy— originals designed to allow each member to shine (in addition to working together with the kind of familiarity that only a set lineup can bring)."
-Jim Reed, Connect Savannah Magazine

"...3(+) musicians that show promise."
-Corey Christiansen, Mel Bay Recording Artist
